College Photographer of the Year judging began on Monday with sports action and sports feature, and my image from last year’s Mike Williams NFL draft story won an award of excellence! Couldn’t be more stoked. Congrats to Matthew Ziegler who also won!
Mike Williams hugs his mother, Mary, at their home in Buffalo, NY after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the fourth round of the NFL draft on March 24, 2010. On November 1, 2009, Williams violated curfew for the second time and was let go from the Syracuse University football team, leaving his future in football uncertain. Disciplinary concerns blurred Williams’ credibility as a pick in the draft where 32 teams passed on him over three rounds. “Everybody else has judgments on you,” Williams said. “So let’s get one for the family.” (photo by Alex Pines)
